ENGAGING WITH OUR COMMUNITY TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE AND MEET REAL NEEDS
We always have our hearts and hands open to respond to needs in any way we can. The community arm of our church offers free services and assistance to various members of our community. Here is some information about what we do, and how you can get involved.
Nations Belmont campus hosts an Alta-1 School that supports year 10 – 12 students from the community who struggle with aspects of mainstream education. For five days each week some 30 students engage in study, work experience and vocational activities. Two people from the church are employed by Alta-1 to work as teachers aides and chaplains to work with the students alongside trained teachers. Volunteers from the church along with Nations Belmont staff also interact with the students and encourage them in their studies and dreams for a better future.
This second chance at education and support in necessary life skills has seen many students graduate and go on to employment or higher level education. Some students are also involved as volunteers in church activities giving back to struggling people within the Belmont community.
Nations Community Hub was established in 2009 as a strong mid-week presence in the local community.
This multi-purpose facility combines offices and training rooms for essential community programs and courses and acts as a support centre for many members in the community. Programs and courses include family counselling, parenting courses, marriage support and programs to support people struggling with mental health issues.
The Nations Community Hub (the Hub) is located right next door to our Church building in Myaree, and offices and meeting rooms for various community programs.
The Hub was once a warehouse, which we fitted out and transformed into a usable space.
Contact us at the Hub 9330 8306 to make a booking.
Every Friday of the school term, we run Friday Food Distribution where we distribute fresh fruit, veggies, milk, and other necessities to those in need within our community. Pick-up of these goods happens at our Belmont campus kids auditorium. We also distribute Coles and Telstra vouchers throughout the year. For more information about these services, or to find out who is eligible to receive this service, please give us a call on (08) 9277 2020.
Our Ladies Fitness Group runs weekly at the Nations Community Hub in Myaree.
It’s a no-pressure environment for women to exercise with the support and guidance of a fitness instructor. We have routines to suit every fitness level, plus morning tea and ‘hang-out’ time after! Open to all women in the community. Contact: Angela 9330 8306 for more information.
Love Community is a Christmas event run by Nations Church to provide an opportunity to gather the local and extended community to celebrate the joy of Christmas together. A free to enter community event for people of all ages, Love Community is built on a team of more than 200 willing volunteers from Nations Church to provide a family friendly event in a safe environment.
In December 2014, more than 8,000 people attended this drug and alcohol free event.
Among the festive atmosphere will be multicultural food vendors, free children’s rides and entertainment plus a showcase of local talent and Christmas Carols.
We hope to see you and your family here at this not to be missed, family Christmas event on Saturday 9 December from 5.30pm for free family entertainment and 7pm for our spectacular carols show. Brought to you by Nations Church and sponsored by Lottery West, Harcourts Applecross and the City of Melville. Visit the website here.
LOVE COMMUNITY HAMPERS
We understand that all across Perth, families go without the little luxuries many of us enjoy at Christmas time, and make do with very little. In response to this, we create hundreds of hampers for some of these families.
The hampers are filled with the highest quality non-perishable goods, hand packed, and personally delivered by volunteers from Nations Church. Our hampers have blessed hundreds of families since the project began in 2010.
RENO FOR A CAUSE
“Reno for a Cause” is an important outworking of our commitment to, and love for, our community. In our Reno projects, the volunteers of Nations Church, alongside the City of Melville Volunteer Resource Centre and local sponsors, spend one Saturday transforming the exterior spaces of not-for-profit organisations – backyard-blitz style.
These organisations are of those that exist to support disadvantaged and marginalised members of our community, and have little funding allocated to aesthetics.
Over the years, we have had the privilege of transforming the entire external premises of the following organizations:
Headwest (Head Injury Support for people with Acquired Brain Injuries)
Norwich Hostel (for people with significant disabilities)
Zonta House Women’s Refuge (for women escaping domestic abuse)
Nulsen Haven (for people with disabilities)
Kids are Kids (for children with disabilities)
Lefroy Hostel (Aged Care Facility)
North Lake Senior Campus (Intensive English Learning Centre)
Nations’ long term friend and sponsor Mr Albert Walmsley, Managing Director of Westral Home Improvements, Canning Vale, has sponsored a number of Reno’s over the years with other local businesses donating goods and services.
