Reach And Influence

Our Story

It all began in November 2003, when we, Ken and Chrissy, feeling ‘too young’, under-qualified and inexperienced, were asked to plant a church by our Senior Pastor at the time, Ps David Storer. Over a 5-month period, we gathered a small group of people and met in different living rooms.

On April 11th, 2004, we launched our first service of Southcity Church in the Melville Civic Centre, located in Perth’s central southern suburbs. We were an autonomous church plant from Life City Church, and the first of the Harvest Net church network. We began with a single service every Sunday along with a weekly Friday night service for young people within our community.

Five years later in 2009, we had reached our capacity at the Melville Civic Centre. With our two Sunday morning services brimming over, Blue Gum Community Centre provided us with this space to grow again. In the same year we also purchased a permanent office space and mid-week facility centre in Myaree, now affectionately known as ‘The Hub’. The Hub afforded us the ability to unleash some of the pent-up vision inside us that we hadn’t the space or the resources to do previously. This gave Southcity Church the option to hold a variety of programs, activities and groups that met at our Hub during the week for various purposes.

In 2014, Southcity Church became Nations Church as we renamed with not just a new identity but an expanded vision. This represented the most transforming shift in our church’s short history. By January 2015, Nations Church had purchased and established a vibrant church facility in Myaree, located in the heart of Perth’s central south, right next to the Hub, which today is the venue for our Nations College.

2014 also marked the year that Nations Church became multi-site as one church in different locations. AirportCity Church, led by Pastors Ken and Melanie Fletcher, became a welcome part of the Nations family as Nations Church Belmont (20 minutes from the CBD), adopting Nations’ identity and the mission to reach and influence our city for Jesus. By August 2015, Mid-Coast City Church became Nations Church Port Kennedy, 40 minutes south of the CBD.  During the same month, Nations Church Phnom Penh was planted by a ’son and daughter’ of Nations Church, Ps Shannon and Tamara Hopper. In January 2016, a brand new facility was purchased in Port Kennedy establishing four growing and vibrant campuses that represented one church in many locations.

Our story is brief, but as it has unfolded we have found greater clarity in how our vision will be unpacked in our community, and over time it has expanded to include a greater number of people. One thing, however, has remained the same – our commitment to reaching and influencing our worlds with the Gospel.

While our story is still unfolding, we genuinely believe that Jesus and His Church is for everyone, everywhere. What started as a handful of people in a few living rooms is now seven church services each Sunday across four campuses with much more potential for more expansion as the vision unfolds.

Our overwhelming sentiment is that our story has only just begun.
